Carey Hodge

Hello families! I am Carey Hodge, the assistant principal at KES. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to the best school in South Carolina! I have been in education since 2003. Before moving to the low country, I taught in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Dalton, Georgia, in private as well as inner city schools. I grew up along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and the New Orleans area. (Geaux Tigers!) I obtained a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from University of Tennessee and a M.ED in Educational Leadership and ED.S from the Citadel. I am currently working towards obtaining an ED.D. I knew that I would become a teacher from the time I was very young. Even before I could read, I lined up my little dolls based on my seating chart and "read to them". I have two lovable boys, Jordan (age 17), Oliver (age 11) and two sweet daughters, Riley (age 15), and Regan (age 12), and baby Mac ( 3). I love to run, ride bikes, kayak, read lots of books, and eat Cajun foods. I look forward to coming to work every day. I feel honored to have been given the wonderful opportunity to see your children's beautiful smiling faces, and to watch them grow. Your children teach me how to be curious, live in the moment, love and laugh.

My Philosophy of Educational Leadership "You become successful by helping others become successful." Zig Ziglar- Great Leaders are courageous, inspire those around them to dream big, and teach resilience. It is my belief that providing an education is the most important service I can give someone. It is an achievement that, once obtained, can never be taken away from a person. It is the foremost tool to enable one to advance from poverty to wealth, and affords one endless means to enjoy the world in new ways. An education provides opportunities and changes lives. As an administrator, I understand the responsibility of being a school leader; I have the ability to impact thousands of lives by being a child's advocate each and every day, and the privilege to empower those around me. I believe effective school leadership consists of an unwavering vision of putting children first. It consists of inspiring and motivating others to make every moment count in the life of a child.

I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns during the year. I look forward to sharing a productive and dynamic year with your child.
