DDTwo Message On Gov. McMaster's Executive Order Regarding Face Coverings in Schools

Good Evening Dorchester School District Two Families and Staff,

Late this afternoon, the district received notification that Governor Henry McMaster issued an Executive Order pertaining to the use of face coverings in schools. The order includes a direction to SC DHEC for the creation of an opt out form for parents and guardians to submit on behalf of their child. The order also directs DHEC and the SCDE to provide or issue any necessary and appropriate additional or supplemental guidance, rules, regulations, or restrictions regarding the application of this order.

Brian Symmes, Governor McMaster’s spokesperson, has clarified that existing rules requiring students to wear masks may remain in place until the form for parents is developed. The Governor expects this to be done very quickly. Therefore, Dorchester District Two will continue to adhere to the established policies concerning masks.

We would ask for your cooperation in an effort to maintain focus on academics and learning in the school environment. Thank you for being patient with us as we determine the specifics, timeline, and implications of this order.
