Story Book Character Parade

Flowertown Elementary will be participating in a Story Book Character Parade on Thursday, October 31st

The parade is a tradition in which classes walk from Flowertown to Newington and back again dressed as a character from a book.  We will have Ashley Ridge’s marching band here to provide the music for our parade.  We ask that each child come dressed that day as a book character

The costume must:

  • be age appropriate
  • have nothing covering the face
  • have no weapons
  • have comfortable shoes for walking.

In addition, the character/costume must be approved by your child’s teacher no later than Friday, the 25th.  In order to be approved, your child must show his/her teacher a copy of the book that the character is being taken from.  Your child will carry the book in the parade.

Please do not stress or spend a lot of money on this project.  Look around the house for things you can use in a creative way, borrow items, or make simple costumes/props.  The point is for the children to celebrate the wide range of characters that we read about in good books! Many people also repurpose their Halloween Costumes to match a book character.

Examples:  Junie B. Jones, Harry Potter, Clifford, Franklin, Berenstain Bears, The Cat in the Hat, etc. You can also choose a nonfiction book about a doctor, veterinarian, teacher, etc.  If you have questions, please contact your child’s teacher.
