Two students from Summerville High School will represent Dorchester School District Two on the national level as Culinary Ambassadors.
Through a partnership between DDTwo, Dorchester Two Educational Foundation, and Taco Boy, SHS students Madison Carson and Joseph Mann will develop key workforce skills:
They will attend the American Culinary Federation National Convention this July in Las Vegas, Nevada, to network with the best chefs from around the globe and to receive world-class training.
They will shadow Taco Boy leaders to learn firsthand about operating a successful restaurant.
Throughout the 2022-23 school year, the students will share their insight with their peers in DDTwo’s culinary and Career & Technical Education programs.
Culinary Ambassador candidates recorded videos sharing why they would successfully represent DDTwo, the Foundation, and Taco Boy. Finalists interviewed with representatives from the Foundation, Taco Boy, the district, and an outside judge from Johnson & Wales University.
Ralph Hayes, Foundation Executive Director, says, “We are thrilled to have Taco Boy support our students in this unique opportunity. This real-world experience builds on the exceptional education our students receive in the classroom. Taco Boy is truly invested in our success and is a model partner for our future success. I am eager to showcase the benefits of this partnership to other organizations so we can replicate this model to have Ambassadors in other fields like STEAM, Entrepreneurship, Bio-Med, Agriculture, and more.”
