The Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics is bringing both an ITEAMS Extreme camp and a CreatENG camp to the low country this summer. The ITEAMS camp is designed for rising 6th, 7th & 8th graders who have demonstrated scholarship in science and math and desire an academically challenging STEM summer experience. Campers can expect: awesome experiences and hands-on projects using microcontrollers; four-day immersion into the world of microcontrollers, electronics and circuits; and interactions with other students who share a passion for technology. CREATEng is GSSM’s one-of-a-kind engineering and design thinking day camp for rising 8th and 9th graders. In CREATEng, students take on the role of NASA engineers charged with developing a sustainable colony on Mars. Working through project-based, hands-on team challenges, students learn what engineering is and what engineers do. With a focus on civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering students work through a series of mini challenges from building windproof structures and protecting transportation with impenetrable wheels for the Rover, to using Arduino technology for greenhouse automation.
