New hires will receive a $1000 signing bonus. $500 payable in October and $500 payable in May.

Bus drivers with perfect or nearly perfect attendance (absent one day or less during the semester) will receive a $250 bonus per semester.

After one year of service, each driver will receive an annual $500 bonus for continued service payable in December the following year.

If a driver is regularly required to drive an extra or double route, due to driver shortage, that driver will receive monthly stipend of $200.

Any district staff member (excluding administrators) who recruits a successful bus driver is eligible for a $200 bonus.

South Carolina requires school bus drivers to have a Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements. To earn the CDL, the driver must acquire a CDL learner’s permit by passing 4 academic tests—100 questions covering general CDL procedures, air brakes, passenger transport, and school bus operations. SCDMV requires a minimum of 10 hours of driving instruction prior to the CDL road examination. The average driver requires 15 to 20 hours of driving instruction before the road examination. SCDE further requires certification of each school bus driver before permitting them to transport students. Certification includes 20 hours of classroom instruction and a separate road examination focused on school bus operations. DD2 driver candidates are paid at a training rate of $16.28 per hour during the driving instruction after successfully acquiring the learner’s permit. After passing the CDL and SCDE certificate road evaluations, and signing on with DD2, we reimburse the drivers for the 20 hours of classroom instruction at the training rate.

Supplemental work options include serving as cafeteria monitors, custodial support, and secretarial support

Steps to Becoming a Sub:

• Visit the AppliTrack website.
• To start, choose External Applicants: and “Start an application for employment”.
• A Clearance Interview will be scheduled with our DDTwo Personnel Department once you have three completed references in your Applitrack application.
• Our substitute workshop at 815 South Main Street, Summerville, is required for all candidates who do not hold a teaching credential.

Prerequisites:  Must possess a minimum of a GED or High School Diploma.  Proof of education must be uploaded in Applitrack, prior to attending the training.

Age Requirements: 21 with HSD/GED. (Full-time college students 18-20 are also eligible with current enrollment in 12 or more college credit hours) they must attend the substitute workshop and complete all other employment paperwork as well as provide proof of full-time student status.  College students are permitted only to sub in the elementary schools.

Background Check: Pass the required SLED background check.

  • Half-Day Assignments - $62.50
• Certified Daily Rate (with Teaching Credential) - $150
