Welcome to the NES Leader In Me Website!
Newington Elementary is proud to be a Leader in Me Lighthouse School!
The Newington Elementary School, Leader in Me story, began in 2010. Mrs. Rita Berry, President/CEO of the Greater Summerville/Dorchester Chamber of commerce, provided the principal at the time, with the opportunity to visit a Leadership Day at the world's first Leader in Me School, A.B. Combs Elementary in Wake County, NC. That visit set in motion the ongoing commitment of training our school faculty in The 7 Habits of highly Effective People, and our students in the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. As a school family, we have witnessed the power of living and modeling the habits personally and professionally. Our students are leaders of themselves and are confident and empowered to be active contributors to school operations, activities, and in their own learning. In 2013, Newington earned the distinction of being named a Leader in Me Lighthouse School.
Habits to Live By!
Learn and Live the 7 Habits and we guarantee you will become more effective in all that you do!
Habit 1: Be Proactive
You are in Charge. I choose to be prepared, calm, and in control of my actions.
Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind
Have a Plan. I ask myself, 'what is my end in mind?' What outcome do I desire?
Habit 3: Put First Things First
Work First, Then Play. I take care of the important work first. I focus on my Big Rocks, then I have time for the little rocks.
Habit 4: Think Win-Win
Everyone Can Win. I work with others to consider all ideas, select the best idea, or synergize to find a better solution.
Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
Listen Before You Talk. I listen to the thoughts and ideas of others and then share my viewpoint.
Habit 6: Synergize
Together is Better. When I work with others, the outcome is better.
Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
Balance Feels Best. I take care of my body, mind, soul and heart.
The 8th Habit: Find Your Voice! I am empowered to use my voice to be a Leader of Myself.
