Dorchester School District Two announces rescheduled 2020 graduation ceremonies

Ashley Ridge High School, Fort Dorchester High School, and Summerville High School Principals in Dorchester School District Two surprised their 2020 graduating seniors this afternoon with a recorded video announcement that graduation ceremonies have been rescheduled to the second week of June in the schools’ football stadiums. After careful planning and consideration, district and school administrations have made the decision to celebrate this milestone achievement of the Class of 2020 with an in-person graduation and the opportunity to walk across the stage closer to the scheduled end of school. Graduation programs had originally been rescheduled for July 17th in the N. Charleston Coliseum. The health and safety of students, their families, and staff remain the priority during these special events. Social distancing and safety precautions will be observed based on guidance from the State Department of Education, the Governor’s Office, and health agencies.

All graduation ceremonies are scheduled as follows:

Ashley Ridge High School: June 10, 2020 at Fox Swamp Stadium

Fort Dorchester High School: June 9, 2020 at John Bagwell Stadium

Summerville High School: June 8, 2020 at McKissick Field in Memorial Stadium

All programs will begin at 7:30 a.m. with gates opening 6:00 a.m.  Each graduate will receive two tickets for guests along with one parking pass. The graduation program will also be live-streamed to allow family members and friends the opportunity to view the ceremony. In the event of inclement weather, the outdoor programs will be rescheduled.

Safety Measures for 2020 Graduation Programs:

    1. Graduates will be seated at least six feet apart across the football field.
    2. Stadium stands will be marked to indicate where pairs of guests will sit to ensure social distancing guidelines are followed.
    3. A no bags policy will be followed that includes camera cases.
    4. No umbrellas, signs, balloons, or air horns will be allowed in the stadium.
    5. Restrooms will be available on a limited basis to ensure social distancing.
    6. Graduates will walk across the stage and receive their diploma covers, with no hand shaking taking place.
    7. Students and their guest are encouraged to wear masks. Graduates will be provided with three masks in their senior packets.
    8. Hand sanitation stations will be positioned throughout the stadium.
    9. Guests will not be allowed on the field after the graduation ceremony. Graduates and guests should refrain from gathering in groups on campus areas including the parking lots, restrooms, and concession areas.

As we celebrate the class of 2020, Dorchester School District Two is committed to this graduation being a memorable event while ensuring that all attendees are safe and secure.
