The Givhans Media Center is the hub of the school. It is user-friendly and is always seeking to understand the needs of its students and faculty. The Media Center staff wants you to feel welcome.

Our media center houses a great deal of information that you will find helpful. Using the resources of the GMC, all students will have the opportunity to locate and process information, create and produce products that reflect learning, and expand their horizons. They also will be introduced to, and have the opportunity to explore and read, many different forms of literature. This center will serve as an alternative learning space where users come to discover the world around them through the use of technology, to read for enjoyment, or to find a quiet space for reflection.
Media Center Hours
The Givhans Media Center will be open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for use by students, staff, and other members of the school community, including parents. Previously scheduled meetings may sometimes necessitate a change in these hours.
Use of the Media Center
Students are encouraged to come to the media center on an as needed basis. Teachers may send small groups of students (no more than 3 at a time) to check out books or to work on classroom assignments. Students are expected to bring a pass to the media center at these times. This pass assures the media staff that the teacher knows where these students are. Students must use the Media Center’s Daily Log Book to sign in and out during every visit. The media staff will reserve the right to send students back to class if they are too noisy, disruptive, or if the media center becomes overcrowded.
Book Circulation, Overdue and Damaged Books
Due to the limited size of the media center collection, students will only be allowed to check-out two books for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed on an as needed basis, provided there are no outstanding holds on those books.
Fines will be charged for overdue items at a rate of .05¢ per day for books and 50¢ for lost Date Cards.
