Mr. Brown alias Mr. Purple

Hello, Wildcats and visitors! My given name is Mr. Brown but most people call me Mr. Purple because its my favorite color and I wear it so often. In case you need to reach me directly, my email is:

I am looking forward to a wonderful second year with my Dubose Middle School family as I am now the 8th Grade Math ACE teacher.

I live in Goose Creek and love being here in the Low Country after 20 years upstate. My father grew up in California and became a pilot in the Air Force while my  Italian mother had her hands full with my sister Julie and I, both born in the same year but not twins (Say what!) and my younger brother and sister Jack and Joyce. I grew up around the world-born in Japan, 6 years in Germany and France, and I have lived in 17 states!  High School was in Germany and Sumter and I graduated with a BS from Wofford College-Go Terriers!

I learned my way around textiles with Milliken & Co, published a magazine in New York City, was general manager and district trainer for a food/pharmacy retailer, learned banking with Bank of America then decided what I really wanted to do was teach middle school. Yep, that explains it-I am a crazy math teacher.

In between, I married my wife Diane (teaches at Windsor Hill), had two beautiful daughters, Laura and Rachel, both living here in the Charleston area, and now have a grandson-Kiernan, Irish name-go figure and a beautiful new grand-daughter, Emma Grace. We have two useless dogs, Wally, a Chihuahua mix and Murphy, a Silky Terrier.

I played all sports in middle school and stuck with Golf for life, then lettered in fencing, bowling, and rifle team in college. Biked across America in 1976 (that is bicycling 4180 miles) and love to backpack. I work out every day at 6am and now that my knees have been replaced plan to hike the Appalachian Trail end to end (2190 miles). I read voraciously and especially love science and fantasy fiction, i.e., LOTR, Robert Heinlein and Game of Thrones. Chocolate, coffee, donuts, and Pepperoni Pizza are my four food groups and I relax by watching sports and movies. Diet Code Red Mountain Dew is my go-to drink.

This will be a fantastic year for my students and I as we become STEM-centric and PBL proficient. My school phone number is 843-875-7012. Since I will be teaching, please leave a message and I will call you back as soon as I can.
