• Welcome back, everyone!

I'm excited to welcome our new 6th graders to GMS's piano program.  We will focus on the basics of music literacy and practical skills, such as reading music notation and being able to play short songs.

Our returning 7th graders will continue to explore repertoire options and dig in deeper with periods of music and composers.

8th graders in both CP and non-CP classes will be exposed to more music theory and ear training exercises to develop greater independence for learning music on their own.  CP students will be responsible for the content of the CP exam and additional technique requirements.

All classes participate in composition exercises, written work, games, and independent practice time guided by the teacher.

I'm looking forward to a great year!

Mrs. Andrea Scheulen

Hello!

This is my second year at Gregg and I'm excited to continue working with students from last year and meet new students this year.  Piano is the best foundation instrument and is accessible to all.  My classes meet students at their skill level.  We work together on fundamentals of music like articulation, dynamics, and theory, and of course hands-on coordination.  Piano is a difficult instrument but highly rewarding.  Hard work pays off!

I am married to a wonderful husband who is a military and airline pilot.  Together we have two Boston Terriers and a cat.  We are both originally from out of state (Michigan and Maryland) and have moved a few times, but Charleston is where we have lived the most years together and it feels like home.  In addition to being part of the GMS family, I am a section leader in the Grace Church Cathedral Choir and long-time member of the Taylor Festival Choir.
