Mrs. Kathryn Kastner
My name is Kathryn Kastner, and I will be your student’s English teacher this semester. I recently returned from three years in the United Arab Emirates where I worked for the Abu Dhabi Education Council teaching English to Emirati high school students. Prior to accepting the overseas position, I spent two school years working as an English teacher at West Ashley High School. After graduating from the College of Charleston with degrees in English and French, I joined the United States Peace Corps and spent over two years teaching English in Morocco as a Youth Development volunteer. When I returned to the United States, I spent a semester substitute teaching at several Charleston County elementary, middle, and high schools before accepting a job as a teacher’s assistant at Montessori Community School of Charleston. During the two years I spent at Montessori, I worked with students in first to sixth grades. While completing a Master of Arts in Teaching at The Citadel Graduate College, I worked as a graduate assistant in The Citadel’s Academic Support Center, tutoring cadets and graduate students in the areas of writing and French. I am delighted to be working at Givhans Alternative Program, and I am sincerely looking forward to working with you and your child throughout the school year.
