The 2019-20 school year marks the beginning of my 19th year of teaching. In 2001 I graduated from the University of Maine at Farmington with a degree in Elementary Education. My first 2 years of teaching were at Mountain Valley Middle School in Mexico, Maine where I was a 7th grade social studies and math teacher, and I also coached JV field hockey. In 2004 I relocated to North Carolina where I taught 5th grade math and science at Selma Middle School. During that time, I spent weekends visiting family in the Lowcountry and decided that this would be a great place to raise my children. When the opportunity to relocate was open, I took the chance. This marks the beginning of my 11th year at Alston Middle School. While here I have served as a classroom teacher along with a variety of roles such as a single gender teacher, inclusion teacher, mentor, PBIS co-chair, and Dimension U coach. I currently serve as the team leader for 6-2 as well as the Math Department Head. During my tenure at Alston Middle, I have been named Rotary Teacher of the Month and was named Teacher of the Year for 2017-18. On a more personal note, I am the proud mom of 2 children Emily and Ethan. My daughter is a sophomore and my son Ethan is in 7th grade Each summer we try and go back to Maine to visit family and friends. During my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, quilting, reading, and watching sports.
