  • What is the role of a School Counselor?

    be there for you

ARHS School Counselors are available to help all students through a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the areas of academic achievement, career, and social/emotional development, ensuring AR students become productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

ARHS Counselors embrace the framework of a comprehensive program as laid out by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) Model. The themes of leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and systemic change are fundamental to the counseling curriculum we build for students. These above-mentioned themes are delivered through:

    • Core Curriculum: classroom guidance, career awareness, career fairs, and other activities throughout the school year
    • Individual student planning: IGPs, course planning, scholarship advisement
    • Responsive services: individual counseling, small groups, crisis counseling, drop-out prevention, parent meetings
    • System supports: counselor professional development, staff meetings, advisory council meetings, calendaring, testing assistance, student registration, community outreach, and collaboration.
