Convocation

All 190-day contract employees* attend. Employees with other contracts are welcome to attend!
*Note: LEAP "Back-to-School" Summer Camps will remain open.

Lactation Room

A lactation room will be located on the first floor of the North Charleston Coliseum in Dressing Room Three.

Attendees will also go through metal detectors, and coliseum ushers may be visually searching bags and purses at the entry points. 

Carpooling

Carpooling is recommended because only 1,450 parking spaces are available. All staff have the option to ride air-conditioned athletic or district buses from their building to the North Charleston Coliseum. Buses leave at 7:30 a.m. and will return after Convocation ends.  

Road Closures

• The Ashley Phosphate Road railroad crossing between Southrail Road and Palmetto Commerce Parkway will be closed for two days starting on July 31st.  This will impact traffic and delays should be expected.  Please plan accordingly for travel times.

Courtesy Transportation for school and district staff (Optional)

• Elementary & Middle Schools will use buses provided by the Transportation Department. High Schools will use their Activity Buses. District Office sites will use buses provided by the Transportation Department. 
• Buses will be at schools to load at 7:30 AM.

Parking

• Parking is free. Staff can use Parking Lots A & B at the North Charleston Coliseum. The front of Lot C will also be used for handicap-accessible parking for any guests who need assistance or direct handicap access to the building.

District Closure: 

Signs will be posted on each building that notifies visitors that the district will be closed the morning of July 31st and will open at 1 p.m.

Entrance
We will only be using the South Entrance for the event. The South Entrance is titled Montague Terrace on the Parking Guide (PDF).

Seating

ADA Accommodations Seating will be available in a designated area on the floor of the North Charleston Coliseum.

If any employees cannot use the stairs, there are roughly 14 seats on the disabled platforms on the main floor. Also, there are seats in the top rows of the Coliseum that do not require using steps but wheelchairs do not fit in those rows. Please let Lara Hayes know if you have any staff who need this accommodation.

Speakers for this year's convocation include Superintendent Chad Daugherty; Board of Trustees Chair, Dr. Ashley Wimberly; Educational Foundation Executive Director, Ralph Hayes; DDTwo's 2025 District Teacher of the Year, Stefanie Satterfield; Executive Director of Community Engagement, Brian Bohannon; and this year's keynote speaker, Eric Rowles from Leading to Change.
