Dorchester District Two participates in the 4-year-old CERDEP (SC Child Early Reading Development and Education Program).

CERDEP is a four-year-old income eligibility program to promote school readiness. As part of the Appropriations Act, the South Carolina General Assembly provides funding for students who qualify under the established income eligible guidelines.

All students must complete the registration process at their home school (use our Find My School tool). Registration does not ensure acceptance into the 4K Program. DDTwo currently has 4K classrooms in each of our elementary schools. 4K students attend full day and will follow the Dorchester District Two School Calendar. 

To be eligible for the program a child:

• Must be four years of age by September 1st
• Meet all income eligibility guidelines
• Complete the DIAL 4 screening process

If parents suspect their child has a developmental delay or has been referred by their physician for additional screenings, our school district holds Child Find screenings for children who have reached their third birthday. These are done in our special services department and some children may qualify for speech services or placement in a preschool class depending upon their screening results. This is a free service. If a parent is concerned about a child’s articulation or language skills our school speech pathologists screen children who are three to determine if speech services are needed. Please call your home school and leave a message for the speech therapist/pathologist to contact you to discuss your concerns and/or to schedule a screening. If your child qualifies you may bring him or her for free speech therapy at your home school. If you are unsure of your home school, please call 843.832.5541 for information.
