Chief of Community Relations
Dorchester School District Two’s Chief of Military Community Relations Karean Troy serves as the primary point of contact and advocate for the district’s military families. She represents, informs, and assists the Command, and she coordinates between military families and DDTwo. Ms. Troy’s goals include:
- Identifying barriers to academic success and developing solutions;
- Promoting parental involvement and educating local communities and schools regarding the needs of military children;
- Developing and coordinating partnerships in education; and
- Providing parents with the tools they need to overcome obstacles to education that stem from the military lifestyle.
Before Ms. Troy joined DDTwo, she served as the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which housed the district’s Purple Star and Employee Assistance Programs, for the Kershaw County School District in Camden, SC. Ms. Troy’s education career includes serving as School Counselor for Fairfield County School District in Fairfield, SC; Academic Advisor for Provost Academy in Columbia, SC; School Counselor for two high schools in Michigan; and Academic Advisor for Wayne State University in Detroit, MI.
Ms. Troy is a retired commissioned officer in the United States Army where she achieved the rank of Major.
Major(R) Troy enlisted in 1990, serving as an enlisted soldier before being commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army Medical Service Corps. After being commissioned, she attended Officer Basic Course in Fort Sam Houston, TX. Some of Major(R) Troy’s assignments include serving as the Health Service Material Officer for the 4201st US Army Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI; Detachment Commander for the 323rd Combat Support Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI; Health Service Material Officer for the 323rd Combat Support Hospital (HUB) in Southfield MI; and several roles in Fort Jackson, SC: Operation Officer for the G3; Commander, Warrior Transition Unit; and Patient Administration Officer for the National Disaster Medical Service (NDMS).
Major(R) Troy’s awards and decorations include Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal and Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon. Her other military schools and courses include Mobilization Planning Course, Health Service Human Resource Manager, Medical Service Corps Officer Advanced Course, Staff, and Faculty Development Training, Training Education Developer Middle Managers Course, Joint Patient Assessment and Tracking System Trainer. Ms. Troy is a certified School Counselor and has a bachelor’s degree in Interpersonal and Public Communication and a master’s degree in Counseling from Central Michigan University.
