Dorchester School District Two Wellness Award Announced

Joe Pye Elementary Receives Check from MUSC Boeing Center for Wellness

Dorchester School District Two is proud to announce that they have been awarded $18,800 for district schools for their participation in the MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness (BCCW) School-Based Wellness Initiative.

The MUSC BCCW School-Based Wellness Initiative engages schools and districts in creating a culture of wellness by utilizing the School Wellness Checklist, which serves as a guide for choosing evidence-based wellness strategies and resources that meet the needs of a school community. Schools earn points based on the number of strategies and activities they implement, and receive a monetary wellness award at the end of the school year.

DDTwo schools implemented strategies targeting improved nutrition, increased physical activity, and enhanced social emotional wellness for both students and staff. This year, some school activities included unstructured recess time for students, community walks/runs by staff teams, and produce giveaways for families.

This is the 11th year that Dorchester School District Two has participated in the MUSC Boeing Center for Children’s Wellness initiative. The district has 100% participation with all 25 schools participating in the checklist program. Joseph R. Pye Elementary was named the Grand Prize Winner and was awarded $2,000. The 2nd and 3rd place winners, Oakbrook Elementary and Beech Hill Elementary, were each awarded $1,500.
