Dorchester District Two Names 2025 District Counselor of the Year
Dorchester School District Two has named Amanda Davis, a counselor at Fort Dorchester Elementary School, as the 2025 District Counselor of the Year. Mrs. Davis will be recognized at the Board of Trustees meeting on February 24, 2025.
Mrs. Davis has dedicated 17 years to elementary school counseling, with the past 11 years serving the students, staff, and families of Fort Dorchester Elementary. Guided by the philosophy of "children first," she advocates for her students, working to foster an environment where they feel safe and respected.
Reflecting on her role, Mrs. Davis shared, “My greatest achievements are the relationships I have built with my students and their families and the opportunities I have helped bring to our school community. I take great pride in truly knowing my students and following their educational and personal growth from pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Each day presents opportunities to make a difference in the lives of children – whether it be offering a quick hug and words of encouragement, inspiring acts of service through a canned food drive, or connecting a student in crisis with the appropriate resources. I am beyond grateful for my role as a school counselor and the opportunity to work collaboratively with my school family as we guide all our students on their journeys to reach their full potential.”
Mrs. Davis believes a comprehensive school counseling program should be data-driven and designed to support students’ personal, social, academic, and career development. She emphasizes the importance of providing age-appropriate services that are accessible to all students in a safe and supportive environment.
Principal Annette Pletcher praised Mrs. Davis, stating, “She makes decisions by putting kids first while having a tremendous passion for her profession, school, teachers, family, and community. She brings a tremendous amount of positivity, energy, and enthusiasm to our team and our school. Her relentlessness in making the overall school experience a positive one for children is admired and sets her apart.”
Fourteen counselors were nominated for this honor by their schools, and a selection committee interviewed them to determine the 2025 District Counselor of the Year.
