DDTwo Strengthens Leadership Team with Appointment of Two Assistant Superintendents

The Board of Trustees approved the appointments of Katie Barker and Kenny Farrell as Assistant Superintendents during its meeting on June 23, 2025. Their appointments are effective immediately.

Barker and Farrell join current Assistant Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Wilson, completing the Superintendent’s senior leadership team as the district prepares for the upcoming academic year.

Mrs. Barker brings with her 24 years of experience in education, including eight years in administrative leadership. Most recently, she served as Chief Academic Officer and Assistant Director of Elementary Schools. Her previous leadership roles include Principal at Summerville Elementary (2017–2022) and Assistant Principal at Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary School (2011–2017). Prior to entering administration, she served as Title I Facilitator at Windsor Hill Arts Infused Elementary School (2007–2011).

A graduate of Florida State University, Mrs. Barker holds a Bachelor of Science in Special Education and a Master of Education in Special Education. She also earned a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from Charleston Southern University.

My focus will remain on fostering high-quality teaching and learning across all schools and ensuring that every child has access to the tools and support they need to succeed.”

Mr. Farrell has 30 years of experience in public education, including his most recent role as Chief Operations Officer. His school-level leadership includes serving as Principal at Summerville High School (2012–2023) and DuBose Middle School (2006–2012), as well as Assistant Principal at Alston Middle School (2002–2006) and Summerville High School (1999–2002). Mr. Farrell began his educational career as a Social Studies teacher in Berkeley County (1994–1999).

Mr. Farrell earned his Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Arts in Education from The Citadel.

“I am honored to serve DDTwo as Assistant Superintendent,” said Mr. Farrell. “I look forward to strengthening the areas that support the whole student—ensuring safe learning environments, promoting well-rounded athletic programs, and providing nutritious meals every day. These essential services play a vital role in academic success, and I’m committed to helping every school in our district thrive.”
