Superintendent’s Report

Unity Day & Red Ribbon Week Awareness - Across All DD2 Schools

Unity Day Goals:

  1. Promote kindness
  2. Create safe and supportive school environments.
  3. Define and discuss what it means to be an upstander vs. bystander.
  4. Increase awareness of bullying reporting procedures and trusted adults.

Red Ribbon Week Goals:

  1. Encourage healthy and responsible choices.
  2. Raise awareness about substance use prevention.
  3. Empower students to take pride in living drug-free lifestyles.

Learning By Design

District-wide Professional Learning Event addressing essential topics in education. Each staff member chose seven sessions according to need and interest.

STEMersion Program

STEMersion received a check for $25,000 that will benefit STEM teachers in the tri-county area to attend an intensive one-week training to learn about stem related careers in our area. Educators leave training with applicable resources to teach stem related lessons.

School Calendars

Calendar Committee Recommendations were presented to the Board at the meeting and approved at the meeting. We are excited to present families and staff with two calendars — making it easier than ever to plan family time and important events!


Latest Building/Land Projects & Facilities Report

Proposed Elementary School on Yerby Development - Alternate Plan

Due to developer’s timeline for the Elementary School in the area of Yerby Development and the Orangeburg Road Expansion project (2029), DDTwo proposes an alternate plan for the addition of 30-35 elementary classrooms for 750 students in the Yerby area to utilize Referendum funds:

KES: Campus Upgrades

  1. Construct 40 new classrooms
  2. Demo 18 classrooms (Orangeburg Rd Safety Issues)
  3. Additional 20 classrooms
  4. New larger cafeteria and kitchen
  5. Expand multi-purpose room
  6. Reconfigure footprint of the building due to Orangeburg Road Expansion – Historic reception and auditorium area will remain.
  7. Total Capacity: 1,400 students

WRES: Campus Upgrades

  1. Additional 10-15 Classrooms
  2. Expand cafeteria and kitchen
  3. Total Capacity: 1,200 students

Information Only: Repurposing Spann Elementary School

($500,000-$700,000) Proposal for the James H. Spann Education Center to house the following:

  • Food Service
  • Technology / ITS
  • SPED & Child Find
  • Parenting Center
  • Flex Meeting Space
  • Possible Day Care Program / Parenting Center – Future
  • Elementary Alternative School – Future
  • Adult Education – Future

Portion of 901 McKissick Way (Skate Park) for community enhancement.

  • Donate 1.55 acres to the Town of Summerville to make improvements to the current skate park that will provide more opportunities and programming for kids.
  • Parking will be added, and it will also be used for SHS football games.
