South Carolina Act 204: What DD2 Families Need to Know
Grades Reflect Student Learning
South Carolina's Act 204 requires grades to reflect a student's actual performance. Schools may no longer require a minimum grade, or “grade floor,” that is higher than the grade a student earned.
What This Means for DD2 Students
4K–Grade 2
Standards-Based Grading
Students in 4K–2nd grade use standards-based grading.
Their current grading practices are not affected by this change.
Grades 3–12
Grades Reflect Actual Performance
Grades will reflect the work completed and learning demonstrated by your child.
Missing work will be recorded as a zero.
Grades are one measure of learning and will be considered along with classroom performance, assessments, teacher feedback, and other evidence of learning.
What Families Should Know
Support Is Still Provided
Teachers will continue to provide meaningful feedback, additional support, and opportunities for students to learn from mistakes and demonstrate growth.
Recovery Requires Completion
Students must complete required assignments to be eligible for content or credit recovery, as applicable.

Check Grades
Monitor grades and progress regularly in PowerSchool.
Watch for Missing Work
Pay attention to missing assignments and assessment results.
Encourage Completion
Help students complete and submit required work on time.
Stay Connected
Reach out to your child's teacher early with questions or concerns.

Grades are one measure of student learning. Our goal is for grades to provide students and families with meaningful, accurate information about what students know and can do while ensuring students receive the support they need to continue learning and growing.
