grades reduced a black student’s probability of
dropping out of school by 29%. Low-income black
students who had a black male teacher in 3rd, 4th
or 5th were 18% more likely to express interest in
college when they graduated.

2021 Coach Mulkey Scholarship – Open to college bound athletes who have earned at least on Varsity Letter. Application must be picked up from Mrs. Toliver in the School Counseling office. Applications and recommendations must be returned to Mrs. Toliver by April 16, 2021.

The Bonds-Wilson High School Alumni Association is sponsoring the 2021 Ruben Smith Scholarship. This is a $500.00 scholarship based on the best essay submitted on the given topic. The deadline for submission is May 10 2021. See application for Essay Prompt and address to mail completed application.
The 2021 We Are The Voices Essay Scholarship is now open for applications. The organization will award five (5) scholarships of $500.00 each. See the attachment for eligibility requirements and essay prompt. All Essays must be submitted by March 31, 2021.
The 2021 Tywanza Sanders Legacy Scholarships are open for application. Summerville High seniors planning to attend 4 year college can apply for the SC Statewide Academic Scholarship or the Textbook Scholarship. Seniors planning to attend a Beauty or Cosmetology program can apply for the Beauty Culture Scholarship. Review the eligibility requirements for each on the attached flier. Applications will be completed online at: www.tywanzasanderslegacyfoundation.com/scholarships . The deadline for submitting each scholarship is April 16, 2021 at 11:59 pm.
The 2021 National Society of Black Engineers Scholarship is open for applications. Completed applications and all requested supplements are due by April 2, 2021. See the Eligibility requirements below:
● Graduating high school seniors
● The applicant must be an African-American, US citizen, and a South Carolina resident of one of the following counties: Charleston, Berkeley, or Dorchester
● Must plan to pursue an undergraduate degree with a major within a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field, and must be accepted for enrollment into a STEM degree program.
● Must be a student in good standing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale (3.4375 on a 5.0 scale)
The Ronald A. Millhouse, Sr. Scholarship is now open for applications. This scholarship was established in honor of Ronald A. Millhouse, Sr. by his family. It is open to Summerville High School graduating seniors who are planning to begin college in the fall. The completed application and all requested supplements must be submitted by April 2, 2021.
Nominee must be a South Carolina high school
senior and a career and technology education
completer as defined by CIP code designation,
having earned four or more CATE Carnegie
units of site-based (school campus) credit OR
three or more CATE Carnegie units of sitebased
(school campus) credit in one of the
recently approved Three Unit Completer
Programs. Apply no later than March 1, 2021!
