SMSgt Levi Bennett
Senior Master Sergeant Levi Bennett, is an Aerospace Science Instructor/ Drill Team advisor for the Fort Dorchester High School (FDHS) SC-933 Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp (AFJROTC) Program. Responsible for developing citizens of character dedicated to serving their nation and community. More specifically, the program is designed to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship; promote community service; instill responsibility, character and self-discipline; and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals; this includes drill and ceremonies, principles of leadership and management, and communication skills.
Sergeant Bennett was born in Moncks Corners, South Carolina, on August 30, 1963. He attended East New York Vocational &Technical High School, Brooklyn N.Y., specializing in Aviation Science. He played one year of semi-pro football for the “Brooklyn Thunder Gods” and was a member of his high school’s basketball and track teams. Sergeant Bennett ranked 27th in graduating class of over 300 students. After Graduation from high school in June 1981, Sergeant Bennett entered into Basic Military Training for the United States Air Force.
His qualifications/experiences as a AFJROTC Instructor are based on 26 years of active military duty in the United States Air Force as a Technician, Supervisor, and Manager. Throughout his 26 years of active duty, he has and continues to support local community activities; volunteer coach and mentor for the Charleston AFB, Youth Center, Summerville SERTOMA Youth sports program, Amateur Athletics Union (AAU), and Fort Dorchester High School (FDHS) Junior Varsity football team, and currently serves as SC-933 Drill Team Advisor. He has formal training in Leadership and Management, Managerial Communications, Personnel Management, Quality Application and Customer Service. Working alongside senior leaders, Community members, subject matter expert, and affiliated support agencies, he has had numerous management and supervisory opportunities, which have enabled him to gain vast amounts of knowledge and experience in counseling, providing quality customer service, and developing new processes and procedures for AFJROTC, Fort Dorchester, and the local community. The skills he’s gained have culminated in his ability lead, train, educate and inform our cadets, faculty and staff and community members in staying abreast of and successfully managing today’s ever-changing quality of life and technology issues.
Sergeant Bennett is married to the former Mary C. Covington. They have three Sons of which all have attended and graduated from FDHS, They also have four grandchildren.
