Welcome back students!

We are beginning a new unit in math– fractions. We will be studying fractions until February. First, we will learn what fractions mean. We will be learning how to find equivalent fractions, determine if a fraction is closer to 0, 1/2 or 1, and how to write improper fractions.

     Parents, please talk to your children about fractions in the home– cooking, sewing, building things….. Look for ways to “show” them how fractions are used in real life.

     In reading, we will continue our study of nonfiction text features. We will do this by using our Science and Social Studies books to locate information. Nonfiction texts are very different from fiction texts. They have multi-syllabic words, harder texts and are read to learn information. They also have lots of graphs, charts and maps to help you “see” information.
