Fort Dorchester High School

Mock Trial

The High School Mock Trial Competition is sponsored by the South Carolina Bar Law Related Education Association. The goals of this program are to educate students about the American judicial system and the fundamentals of litigation. Through participation in the mock trial program, students will sharpen their basic skills such as listening, public speaking, writing, reading and analyzing.

Teams are generally compose of 6-15 students assisted by a teacher and attorney coach. The South Carolina LRE provides each team with a fictitious case, and each team will try both a plaintiff and defense argument. Teams present the case to panels of practicing attorneys and judges, and are scored on the strength of their presentation and legal arguments.
