When I was in third grade I decided that I wanted to be a teacher when I grew up and I have never changed my mind. I pursued my teaching career by attending Eastern Kentucky University and then getting my Masters in Education from the University of Kentucky (Go Wildcats). I married my college sweetheart, Jim and his love was the Air Force, so we spent the next 30 years bouncing from state to state where I would teach. The Air Force brought us to SC twice and we finally retired here. I have been teaching at SES for eleven years with a break to Washington DC in the middle. I am currently teaching reading which is my first love. There is nothing better than watching students develop a love for reading. If you can read you use it to learn just about anything. It is the core to all learning. Reading is more than just making sense out of symbols. Once the student is able to decipher the letter and connect it to sounds, the real learning takes place. I teach children to think and to derive understanding from text. I have the best job in the world.
