General Information: The media center at Alston Middle School has approximately 9,500 titles, 49 journal titles and additional audiovisual resources available for teachers and students to use. Students are encouraged to utilize the media center as often as possible for reading and research purposes. The students are allowed to check out two items a time for a two week period. After the due date they are charged $.05 per day, excluding weekends, holidays, and staff development days.
Reading Renaissance: Reading Renaissance is our school wide reading program utilizing the Accelerated Reader Program. The students will take a reading diagnostic test during the first few weeks of school. After the test the students will receive a diagnostic report showing their reading level and their reading zone. The language arts teachers will set reading goals for the students to accomplish throughout the school year. We will have events that will allow the students to celebrate reaching their goals throughout the year.

Students who exceed these goals and who have shown growth in their Reading/Language Arts classes with be invited to the Read-In and the Finale.
