General Kindergarten Information

Newsletters:

Newsletters will be placed online monthly.  They will inform you about what we will be working on in class and let you know about important events.  This newsletter is just one of the many ways in which to give you information about what’s going on in our class.

Homework:

The purpose of homework at this age level is to get students ready for the responsibilities of first grade.  Activities will sometimes be attached to your child’s newsletters.  These activities will be designed to provide you with ways to help your child at home.  We will be sending home baggie books and ask you to sit down with your child nightly and read them together.  Please be sure to fill out the reading log nightly.

Transportation:

Changes:  If your child is to change his or her regular mode of transportation for a day, week, etc. we must be notified in writing.  Please put a dated note in the folder with the child’s name on the front.  This is for your child’s safety.  The office also requires a note if there is a change in transportation, they will no longer accept phone calls involving this matter.

Car Riders: If your child is a car rider you will need to get a card from the office to display in your car window when picking up your child after school.  Without this card you will have to go to the main office and sign them out.  NO EXCEPTIONS!

Lunch Money:

Lunch money can be sent daily, weekly or monthly.  The cost is $1.40 per day, and .85 cents a day for breakfast.  Please put your child’s money in the baggie in his or her folder and include a small amount indicating how much you sent and what it is for.

Birthdays:

We will have one celebration a month for birthdays that fall in that month.  Please let us know if you would like to send something in.  The celebration will be the last Friday of each month.  We will acknowledge the child’s birthday on the day of their birthday but won’t celebrate it until the end of the month.

PTA:

Please join the PTA for our class.  We are looking for 100% class membership from our parents.  The cost is $3.50.  Thanks!

Discipline:

I believe in a discipline plan that promotes good behavior as well as trying to prevent disruptive behavior.  Therefore, our class uses a color coded system for discipline.

Each student has a green, yellow, blue, and red card in a chart pocket. Each student begins the day with a green card. Your child will have a colored dot on his or her calendar to indicate their behavior for the day.  Students who need redirection during the day will do a “LAPS” (Learning About Procedures) around the playground to reflect on their actions for the day and how to improve. Below are the explanations of the colors and consequences that are paired with each.

Green= Great day with no rules broken

Yellow= Fair day with one warning. (Students may be able to return to green if they continue to have a good day.)~~ 5 LAPS

Blue= Needs improvement with 2 warnings and a note home~~ 10 LAPS

Red= 3 WARNINGS WITH A TRIP TO THE OFFICE AND/OR A CALL HOME.~~ Entire recess LAPS

Students remaining on GREEN all week will be able to visit the classroom prize box on Friday.

Please Initial Calendar Nightly.
