This course is designed to help students gain an understanding of the significant contributions made by African Americans to the economic, social, political, and cultural development of the United States. As a part of the overall social studies philosophy, this course endeavors to help students develop a sense of history, self-respect, as well as an understanding and acceptance of others in a multicultural society, Students will study African American history, art, music, and literature encompassing past and present contributors on a local, national, and international scale. Students will be involved in the completion of individual as well as group projects, reading, and assignments with specific emphasis on developing and enhancing better reading, wiring, technological, and analytical skills.
