Newsletter Chair:

Responsible for gathering information about school activities, PTSA events, letters from the Principal and PTSA president and compiling the information into a newsletter, having the newsletter printed, preparing it for mailing and having it sent out to students. This entails attending board meetings, communicating with the principal's secretary as well as other PTSA board members.

 Health and Safety:

The major focus of this committee is to put on a Health and Safety Fair the week before Prom.  This timing is crucial to communicating to the students the importance of not drinking and driving.  To organize this event, we contact local dentist, doctor, chiropractor, and orthodontic offices to see if they want to participate.  Different years have had different participants. Last year the MUSC helicopter came.  Always the highway patrol comes with their drunk driver goggles and the golf cart where they can simulate drunk driving.  Usually, fire trucks, ambulance, police cars, canine unit, "drug dogs" , department of natural resources with a boat to talk about water safety, Dorchester County Drug and Alcohol commission, MUSC trauma unit, & Department of Mental Health.  In year's past, we have had as many students involved as possible by inviting the student groups to participate.  (Forensic science class to set up a mock disaster, sports medicine to do BP screening, Habitat for Humanity, SADD, etc.)  The school nurse can do eye exams.  A doctor's office might do cholesterol screening. We try to get food donated, healthy snacks of course!  Local hospitals and American Heart and Lung association gives out prizes.

Hospitality:

This committee holds 1 back to school teacher's breakfast in August.  It also has 2 teacher luncheons one in the middle of the school year and one at the end.  We also provide a breakfast for the 9th grade career day speakers.  We help host other events that come up throughout the year.
