International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme at FDHS

Fort Dorchester High School is proud to be one of only twenty-five schools in the state of South Carolina to offer the prestigious International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.  Our 113 IB students are dedicated, ambitious, and ready to take on a personal academic challenge.  Our teachers are knowledgeable and caring, and our program is growing by leaps and bounds.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of studies, leading to internal and external assessments, that meets the needs of highly motivated students.  It is designed as a two-year curriculum, and FDHS students begin in eleventh grade and finish as seniors.  Students learn more than a collection of facts. The Diploma Programme prepares students for university and encourages them to

¨ ask challenging questions;

¨ learn how to learn;

¨ develop a strong sense of their own identity and culture;

¨ develop the ability to communicate with and understand people from other countries and cultures.

Information about the IB Diploma Programme is available at www.ibo.org/diploma.  IB is a comprehensive academic program that allows the student to grow in all academic areas, to develop a strong commitment to service, and to think critically and develop an appreciation for the global nature of our world.
