Minnie Blackwell—Science Dr. Minnie Blackwell is the science teacher this year. Having been an educator for almost 20 years, Dr. Blackwell brings with her an extensive background in applied biology, earth science, and physical science. Dr. Blackwell received her Ed.D in Child and Youth Studies from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She received her Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees from Charleston Southern University. After serving for 7 years as a member of Hanahan’s City Council, Dr. Blackwell became the first female Mayor of the city and is currently serving her second term. Dr. Blackwell’s focus and commitment to education lies in her belief that all children can learn and has devoted herself to making South Carolina’s educational system a program from which educators, students, and parents will learn and prosper to become more knowledgeable, more advanced, and more successful. Dr. Blackwell lives in Hanahan and has three children, Felicia, Jessica, and Madison, and two grandchildren, Walker and Isabella. |

Cheryl Zanghi—ELA My name is Mrs. Cheryl Zanghi, and I am looking forward to joining the 8-2 team at Alston Middle School this year. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in English from Charleston Southern University, and I am certified in English (highly qualified) and elementary. I have had a wide variety of teaching experiences in South Carolina and in New Jersey during my seventeen years in the classroom. These experiences include teaching middle school English and language arts, middle school science, fifth grade, fourth grade, second grade, basic skills instruction, and preschool. I am excited to be working with your child this year and hope to foster a love of learning and a love of reading, writing, and language. As your child’s English and language arts teacher, I will strive to create a challenging, positive learning environment. It is my goal to help each child reach their full potential. I look forward to your support during a successful school year!

Megan Linton—Pre-Algebra I would like to welcome you to an exciting year at Alston Middle School. I am looking forward to working with your child and watching him or her succeed in Pre-Algebra. Carla Salley—Social Studies I am serving as the Team Leader this year. I have the pleasure of guiding your child in the study and exploration of South Carolina history within and outside the context of U.S. History. I have a B.A. in History from UCLA and am Middle Level Certified in Social Studies (highly qualified). This is my 2nd year at Alston. I previously taught in California for 3 years, at Hanahan Middle School fand lat Gregg Middle School. I am passionate about the subject I teach and sharing that passion with my students. I am intent on discovering who they are both as individuals and as learners. It will guide my lesson planning. I seek to peak their interests and tap into their learning styles.
